Traps & Blossoms
I'm trying to figure out some things.
Like if you're aware of certain traps, does that make them avoidable, or are they inevitable?
Or is it contradictory to believe in breaking the rules when necessary, but still establish rules for yourself?
For someone who's not religious in the least, why is it that a good percentage of the songs that really kick me in the soul are about god or heaven?
See:
God Only Knows - The Beach Boys (ok...it's more about love than god)
Heaven is 10 Zillion Light Years Away - Stevie Wonder
Have a Talk with God - Stevie Wonder

Yikes! A tiny blog that is fully loaded. I tried writing this morning...and then it turned into a five paragraph essay...and I gave up on thinking anyone would want to read it. No post.
Here's my response to you though:
1. Welcome to the club of human beings that ask these questions constantly.
2. Do a gut check. You could have picked any word...you chose "traps". What does that tell you? It's not a word with positive connotations. Why would you walk into a trap if you know it's there? If you chose the word "trap", you can already visualize a negative outcome...as opposed to, say...using the word "maze", which would imply risk but not certain entrapment.
3. I am not the person to give advice about rules. However I do believe that they are meant to be adhered to and meant to be broken (or modified) in equal measure. Use your best judgment. Again: use the gut check. If you don't feel right about something...ask yourself why you don't feel right and focus on those answers. Setting personal rules shape our values and our personal relationships. Sometimes it's the restriction in rules that challenge us to be more creative and find deeper meaning in life.
4. Take this advice from an impulsive personality in moderate reform: I have learned to take my time in making and breaking my own rules. Have some patience, spend some time thinking, writing, drawing conclusions, getting to understand your intentions/convictions...and then when the urge becomes so strong in your heart to make or break something...then you'll know the risk is well worth it. When I left the security of my job last year, I faced many people who did not approve because I did it in an unconventional way. But it was right for me. I'm not saying I couldn't have done things better...but...you know, I'll just take that insight forward.
5. All three songs are completely related. One is a question, one is a conviction and one is an answer.
6. A dictionary definition for "religion":
"a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs."
7. I really have no idea what you're talking about, so forgive me for any unwarranted "advice".
